Lake Caldaro is only a short drive from Perwanger Hof and is South Tyrol’s largest lake as well as being one of the most beautiful.
Recently the excellent quality of its water it was confirmed and it is close to that of drinking water. Due to its size, you can hire pedalos or enjoy windsurfing. The two lakes of Montiggl/Monticolo are nearby.
The larger of the two is characterized by particularly clear water. The nearby villages of Neumarkt/Egna and Tramin/Termeno are also equipped with public swimming pools – great opportunities if you fancy a change.

Autumn and winter
The autumn days enchant with their stunning array of colours and fun in the snow is guaranteed during the winter season.
The mild autumn can often provide cycling and hiking fans with pleasantly mild days. It is this season that sees the ripening of fruit reaching its climax; it is the most important time of the year for farmers and throughout the whole valley, you can watch the apple picking and harvesting. The autumn specialty is the chestnut; in the typical rustic inns during the traditional “Törggelen”, this fruit is served roasted and accompanied by grape must. And from December to April many famous ski resorts are just round the corner.
In the south of South Tyrol at Perwanger Hof, every season provides a new stimulus!
Apple harvest
The apple harvest begins in mid-August and continues until the end of October. In September, when the Golden Delicious variety reaches maturity, you can take part all around Perwanger Hof.
From your balcony you can watch the harvest; the owner will be delighted to answer any questions you may have to satisfy your curiosity. The apple is a delicate fruit, and as such it should be treated with due care. Harvesting is done by hand on rubberized conveyor belts. They transport the apple directly into large crates, which are then loaded on tractor trailers and taken to warehouses for storage. We will be happy to let you have a tasting of the varieties grown.
Everyone knows that the apple is a very healthy fruit, and it’s not by chance that the saying goes “an apple a day keeps the doctor away!”

Local specialties are offered in the typical mountain eating places and in addition you get a unique panorama. Many other ski areas in South Tyrol can be reached easily from Perwanger Hof.
